Return to the TOG AoC Wiki Frontpage
This is the western zone of the Tortage Island and the place where all characters start their journey in the world of Hyboria. The zone is meant as an introduction to the Age of Conan game mechanics. You will learn about quests, the map, fighting (combos, spells and abilities), how to use your inventory, equip a weapon or a piece of armor and so on.
Travel
City of Tortage lies at the end of the trail through the lush jungle. Getting there is the purpose of your first quest in the game.
Adjacent zones

Notes, tips and additional information
When fighting use your combos and spells - they do more damage than regular attacks (known also as "white" attacks due to the color the damage you do is displayed in). When you get loot check if you can use it (i.e. if the background is redish you can't use it). At this point almost everything you get as loot is better than what you have.
When you fight make sure you face the enemy (especially melee characters). If you fight more than one enemy, try and group them so that they are all in front of you - your attacks will damage all the ones you face, roughly in a 120° angle in front of you. One way to get the enemies grouped better in front of you is to, once engaged, step back a few steps (you can also jump back by double-tapping the back key - usually 's' or 'Down' Arrow). Many players disable the following two interface options: auto-select target, and auto-face target in the options (interface section).
You will encounter boss characters (their name will include the words [boss] or [mini-boss], also recognizable by the border around their name). They are tougher than normal characters. They usually drop better loot. Sometimes they have precious items stored in treasure chests in the areas where they dwell - make sure you check them out.
A rumor has it that the ship that you were on carried a treasure chest - one may want to investigate that.
